Newcastle vs Manchester United

Newcastle vs Manchester United predictions for Wednesday’s Premier League clash at St James’ Park. Manchester United look to continue their emphatic return to form when they visit Newcastle in the Premier League. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.

November saw Newcastle begin a promising looking resurgence after a bleak start to the Premier League campaign. They had failed to win any of their opening 10 league matches before a 1-0 win over Watford, which quickly turned into an excellent 3 match winning streak.

However, Rafa Benitez simply couldn’t keep the form going. They lost 3-0 at home to West Ham to dampen spirits around St James’ Park, and they have now only won 1 of their last 7 games in the top flight.

Admittedly they are still doing better than they were before that brief resurgence. They have only lost 3 of these 7 games and have pushed themselves to 15th place in the table, but they are only 3 points above the drop zone and know that a poor run of form could see them sink into the danger again. Considering they have matches against Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Spurs coming up in the next month a slip into poor form is easily imaginable.

Manchester United are a transformed team at the moment as well. Their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool and the reign of Jose Mourinho is like a quickly fading bad odour around Old Trafford, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer strolling in to save the day.

They have put Cardiff, Huddersfield, and Bournemouth to the sword under the Norwegian’s tutelage, scoring 12 goals in the process and bringing a sense of joy back to the Theatre of Dreams.

While their attacking transformation is undoubted, there are still many doubts surrounding their defence. Eric Bailly’s needless red card on Sunday perfectly summed up their defensive ability, and Ole’s United are yet to keep a clean sheet under him. In fact, they have only kept 2 Premier League clean sheets all season and their last away shutout was a 2-0 win over Burnley at the start of September.

The Magpies aren’t anywhere near the best going forward, but they have scored in 4 of their last 6 league games and face a side who have conceded in each of their last 8 away games in the Premier League. The Red Devils have conceded 19 goals in 10 away matches this season, so backing Both Teams to Score here looks a great value bet along with a 2-1 win for the visitors.
